1. ZOOLOGY. A moveable, hairlike feeler found on an insect’s head and on the head of some shelled animals such as shrimp and lobsters. These feelers are usually found in pairs and are called antennas or antennae. 2. ENGINEERING. A device used to send or receive radio or television signals. A sending antenna changes electrical energy into electromagnetic radiation such as radio or television signals. A receiving antenna does the reverse. [Antenna comes from Greek words meaning “to stretch up.”]
