orbital:

The mathematical function that describes the motion of an electron around an atom or a molecule. An orbital (an atomic orbital) indicates the region that is the most probable location of an electron in space as well as the likelihood that it will be found there. If there is more than one electron involved, an orbital is sometimes described as an electron cloud.
