pixel:
Short for "Picture element". One of thousands of tiny dots or groups of tiny pieces or picture elements found on a cathode-ray tube such as a television screen. A pixel glows when struck by a beam of electrons coming from an electron gun in the neck of the cathode-ray tube. In a color tube, each pixel consists of three tinier dots: red, green, and blue. Mixed together, the pixels present the image we see in a color picture.
