reptile:

One of a class of cold-blooded vertebrates that breathe with lungs and have dry, scaly, or horny skin. Most reptiles are land animals and lay eggs covered by a tough membrane. Snakes, lizards, alligators, crocodiles, and turtles are reptiles. Fossil remains of reptiles, such as dinosaurs are found in rocks dating back to 280 million years ago. [Reptile comes from a Latin word meaning “to creep” or “ slink.”]
