rodent:

One of a group of small mammals that have two long, chisel-edged teeth used for gnawing. These incisor teeth continue to grow throughout the animal’s life, but they are also always being worn down through use. Rats, mice, guinea pigs, squirrels, beavers, and porcupines are rodents. Rodents eat many of the same things that humans eat, and some have become pests because they eat food people store away. [Rodent comes from the Latin word meaning “to gnaw” or “to chew.”]
