The force with which an object attracted to Earth or another massive body by gravity. Technically, the weight of an object is its mass multiplied by the local pull of gravity and is expressed in units of force called newtons. More simply, the weight of an object on Earth is the force by which it is pulled vertically downward toward Earth, using standard weight units of measure such as ounces and pounds or grams and kilograms. 2. A system of standard weight units, or a unit of that system such as an ounce or gram.
